Jelena Dabić was born in Sremska Mitrovica (Serbia). After attending the “Petar Krančević” Music school in her hometown she studied music theory and composition at the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad, in the class of Prof. Zoran Mulić.
In 2007/2008 she held a teaching position in the Ethnomusicology department of the Academy of Arts.
From October 2008 to July 2010 she studied, with a Bayhost scholarship (Bavarian Academic Center), at the University of Performing Arts Munich, where she made her Master in Composition in the class of Prof. Jan Müller-Wieland.
She also took part in several composition courses and workshops with composers such as Wolfgang Rihm, Peter Michael Hamel, James Clarke, Aleksandra Vrebalov, Alexander Müllenbach,Isabel Mundry, Frederic Durieux and Pascal Dusapin.
Her works have been performed regularly in Serbia and in Germany. Her short opera “SpiegelSpiel” was premiered at the Munich Biennale 2010. She also received commissions from the Siemens Arts Programme and the Young Euro Classic Festival, for which she wrote the orchestral pieces „Beethaphase“ (2010) and „In Circle“ (2011).
Since Juni 2012 she lives as a freelance composer in Hamburg.
