THE SEAM (installation)

The SEAM is an immersive installation that delves into the realms of virtual reality music-performance. Jelena Dabic's concept and music composition draw inspiration from the rich tapestry of folk songs and traditional children's melodies originating from the Danube countries. This music piece unfolds in distinct movements, each representing a country graced by the Danube's flow. At the core of THE SEAM lies an exploration of cultural diversity, symbolized by the music and meticulously designed costumes. These garments serve as vessels of folklore influences, each piece - whether a shirt or a pair of pants - embodying the essence of a distinct culture found along the Danube's banks. Central to the piece is pianist Marcelo Gama, who embodies the spirit of the Danube itself. As the performance flows, the merging borders in the backdrop symbolize the harmonious fusion of cultures, where each thread represents a unique expression of humanity. Beyond its aesthetic and auditory appeal, THE SEAM serves as a contemplative space. It invites introspection on the human condition, subtly evoking questions of identity and belonging. The costumes themselves become a metaphor for human aspirations to leave an indelible mark on the tapestry of existence. Within the portrayal of divisions, the SEAM subtly urges viewers to acknowledge the interconnectedness that binds all beings and nature on this planet. THE SEAM emerges as a poignant symbol of connection, tearing, belonging, and mending - a profound reflection on the unity that arises amidst diversity. THE SEAM weaves together virtual reality, music, and symbolism to celebrate the vibrant tapestry of human expression and interconnectedNESS. Its FLOW prompts contemplation of the shared human experience and the significance of diversity in shaping the fabric of our world.
